When the challenge was issued to the Bremerton Patriot’s readers to help Mike and Courtnee Stevenson gather enough money to finish their dream home for their six children, expectations were low to say the least.

A $100 or $200 would have surpassed those expectations, but the outpouring of support from the community since last Saturday has simply been overwhelming.

Letters and donations have been flooding into the Patriot office reminiscent of the two inches of water that almost put the Patriot out of commission during the Dec. 7, 2007 deluge.

Because of the growing abundance of community support, each donation will be listed on the front page instead of the editorial page as a way to thank each and every person who chips in to make the Stevensons’ dream come true.

An account is being set up at West Sound Bank as Editor’s Challenge and although the first week was a success, much more is needed to complete the house. More details on the account will be available next week.

Donations can still be sent to Editor’s Challenge, Bremerton Patriot, 520 Burwell, Bremerton, WA 98337.
