Celebrate Mountain Views new building
By WESLEY REMMER
The completion of Mountain View Middle Schools new building will be celebrated at the schools dedication ceremony on Tuesday from 5 to 7p.m.
The 6th grade annex, a new media lab and a health and fitness center, all of which were completed in December 2007, will be commemorated at the ceremony.
Students and staff officially moved into the building in December and began classes in the new rooms after winter break.
The project came to fruition after voters unanimously approved a revitalization bond, which the Bremerton School District Board of Directors passed in 2005.
The revitalization bond was the first bond passed by the district in 13 years, when it approved funding for MVMS and Kitsap Lake Elementary in 1992.
The opening of the MVMS building, which coincides with the closure of the aging junior high, is part of a large effort on behalf of the BSD to improve school facilities, consolidate learning and reduce maintenance costs. The ultimate goal is to enrich every students learning experience.
The building at Mountain View was constructed by BLRB Architecture of Tacoma, which has worked with the district before. The new building is equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
The project, according to MVMS construction administrator Lester Gertmann, was a team effort between the BSD and BLRB.
Theyre wonderful clients, Gertmann said of the BSD. They provide excellent leadership. We work very well as a team.
Gertmann said completing the building in the alloted time frame posed a challenge.
The schedule was the biggest challenge, he said. It took us all working as a team to finish the project on time.
The public is encouraged to join Mountain View students and faculty and other BSD staff to inaugurate the new building.
Music and refreshments will be free of charge for those in attendance, and tours of the building will be offered throughout the evening.
Mountain View Middle School is located at 2400 Perry Avenue in Bremerton.
