Frostys Sandwiches has sat at 701 Pacific Avenue for more than 28 years.
Now, owner Chung Madsen said its time to close up shop.
Frostys Sandwiches in Bremerton will close at the end of the month.
Im telling all of my customers Im closing and they dont know what to do, Madsen said.
She opened the restaurant more than 28 years ago and serves as the establishments one-and-only cook. The 69-year-old makes sandwiches, french fries, mashed potatoes, homemade pies, brownies and even batters fish herself.
I make everything, she said with a smile.
Aside from cooking, Madsen also sweeps, mops, does dishes and a host of other tasks at Frostys Sandwiches.
Just me. I do it all by myself, she said. Im an all-purpose person.
Like other local businesses, Madsen said Frostys Sandwiches is not making much money and now is a good time to close up shop.
Its just right, Madsen said.
She said she is ready to retire and spend time at home doing other things. She said her yard, in particular, is in need of repairs and she looks forward to spending time fixing up her Bremerton home.
Madsen said shes had many loyal customers during the years and they all asked her to keep Frostys Sandwiches open for a couple more years, but she refused.
Im going to miss all my customers. I have lots of loyal customers, Madsen said.
As for possibly opening another restaurant, her customers will be sorely disappointed to hear the news.
Im 69 years old. What would I want with another place? she said.
Madsen said Frostys Sandwiches would have never stayed open for 28 years without its loyal customers, whom she said will be missed dearly.
Thank you to all my customers, Madsen said. In all my years here, they spoiled me.
