WWU environmental studies degree info session:
An information session on earning a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in environmental studies from Western Washington University’s Huxley College of the Environment on the Peninsulas is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 5 at Olympic College in Bremerton. The session will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call (360) 417-6521 for more information.
Registration begins next week for Goodwill’s computer and job training classes:
Registration for classes through Goodwill’s Job Training and Education Center are from Oct. 4 through Oct. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Silverdale Goodwill store. Those seeking to register for classes must make an appointment ahead of time by calling (360) 698-6776. Another round of registration sessions is scheduled for Oct. 11 through Oct. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as well.
Classes will run from Oct. 18 through Dec. 9 and are offered in computer introductions including Microsoft Word and Excel as well as career building skills. No prior computer experience is necessary.
The Goodwill store is located at 10001 Mickelberry Road NW.
Family Day at the Naval Undersea Museum:
Learn about submarines named after fish at Family Day on Saturday at the Naval Undersea Museum at Keyport. This is a free event that will run from 10 a.m. to noon for families with children in preschool to age 12. Activities include making fish print shirts and touring the submarine model galleries. Family Day is the first Saturday of the month. For more information call (360) 396-5547.
Reading and book drive at Kitsap Mall to replace Halloween trick or treating:
The first annual Well Read Well Fed Event and Book Drive will be held on Satuday, Oct. 30 at the Kitsap Mall’s Center Court from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is sponsored by Kitsap Mall and the Children’s Reading Foundation and will feature local business and community leaders reading their favorite children’s books. Kitsap Regional Library will have a resource table. The mall will also be hosting a book drive to benefit the Central Kitsap Food Bank and participants are encouraged to donate from Oct. 11 to 31.
Attention deficit disorder presentation at Group Health:
Victoria Crescenzi, developmental pediatrician at the Naval Hospital in Bremerton presents “AD/HD & Meds: Bring Your Questions” on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Group Health Cooperative in Silverdale. This is a free session that is open to the public with a discussion following the presentation. Group Health is located at 10452 Silverdale Way. For more information, call (360) 779-5362.
Planned Parenthood workshop for parents:
Planned Parenthood will hold a sex education class for parents Monday, Oct. 25 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 623 Northeast Riddell Road in Bremerton. The session will teach parents and guardians on how to initiate discussion about sex with their children. The cost is $10 per family. Financial assistance is available. Community luncheon to support OC scholarships:
An annual fundraiser for Olympic College student scholarships, programs and services at Olympic College will be held Monday, Oct. 11. The Olympic College Foundation Community Luncheon will begin at 11:45 a.m. and will include a networking coffee session, lunch and information from faculty members.
