ABERDEEN, Md. — Marine Corps Pvt. Roberto Dixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roberto Dixon Sr. of Bremerton, recently graduated from the Basic Metal Worker Course.

During the 14-week course with Marine Corps Detachment, U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., students receive instruction on welding fundamentals and equipment, welding process for oxy/acetylene and cutting, shielded metal, gas tungsten and gas metal.

Students also perform light armored vehicle armor plate repair and do preliminary training and classes on titanium, safety inspections, respiratory training and fitting, welding trailer and metal shear operations. Students are taught to examine drawings and work orders, perform setup operation, operator maintenance of metalworking and welding equipment.

Dixon is a 2007 graduate of Bremerton High School. He joined the Marine Corps in August 2007.

WORCESTER, Mass. — Nadine Haija of Bremerton received a degree from Clark University. She is a graduate of Prosser High School. Haija also was named to second honors on the university’s dean’s list for spring 2008 semester. To be eligible for second honors, students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.


MOSCOW, Idaho — The following Bremerton students were awarded scholarships from the University of Idaho.

Andrew Dibble, Camden Kolb, Christian Hoover, Eric Hedstrom, Joel Trudel, Nicole Collins, Scott Burn and Sean Finucan.


KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Elizabeth Cole, Adam Jones, Toni Dindlebeck and Megan Sellers, of Bremerton High School, were awarded the High School Bronze medal in total quality management at the recent National SkillsUSA Championships for Skilled Workforce competition.

West Sound Tech Skills Center students who were awarded Skill Point Certificates include Brandy Hartford, preschool teaching assistant; Keagan Crosswhite, collision repair technology; Regina Ogazi, food and beverage service; Brittany Voskuhl, criminal justice; and Stephen Sugden, employment application process.
