September 19, 2008 · Updated 12:13 AM
Peninsula Dog Fanciers Club (PDFC) is celebrating the American Kennel Club Responsible Dog Ownership Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Admission and parking are free.
The goal of the initiative, which is supported by the American Kennel Club, is to educate first-time dog owners about the responsibilities of owning the animal, help current owners enhance their relationships with their pets, learn about canine safety, canine first aid and canine health issues, according to the PDFC.
Licensed veterinarians will be at the event to discuss health issues and provide microchip services. Kitsap Humane Society also will be there to talk about disaster response planning and to issue dog licenses. Attendees will be able to talk with local 4-H groups to see how their children can be involved in the club.
Numerous vendors will be on display and there will be various demonstrations. Food also will be available.
