Artists: One week left to enter CVG show | Kitsap Week
With 327 artists, last year was the largest CVG art competition in the event’s history, and this year, gallery officials are expecting it to be just as successful, if not more.
“This is one of the biggest juried art shows in the state,” show coordinator Alan Newberg said. “In terms of how many people enter it, and the purse of prizes.”
The 2014 CVG Show will be the seventh year the Bremerton-based gallery has attracted artists from all over Washington to participate in one of the state’s largest juried art competitions.
“We wanted to do something that would create a major annual cultural event in Kitsap County,” Newberg said.
Art for the competition will be on display at Collective Visions beginning on Jan. 25. The exhibit will close on March 1.
A total of $9,000 in prizes are up for grabs between first, second, and third place, as well as best of show, and the best of Kitsap award. The competition has three categories: photo and digital art; two dimensional art; and three dimensional art.
Prizes are provided by the show’s many sponsors.
Collective Visions annual CVG show is currently accepting submissions for one more week. The deadline for the juried art show is Nov. 18. Artists can enter online at www.onlinejuriedartshows.com.
This year’s juror is Jamie Walker, a professor of art at the University of Washington. Walker is a ceramic artist and sculptor.
With each artist submitting up to three pieces, and more than three hundred artists expected to participate, Walker will have her work cut out for her.
“Last year’s juror had to look at over 800 slides,” Newberg said. “It’s a big job, but it also means it’s a very competitive show.”
“Just getting accepted in to the show is a big honor,” he added. “You probably have a 1-in-5 chance of having your piece in the show.”
The competition has grown enough that this year’s awards ceremony, held on the show’s opening day, has been moved from the gallery to the Admiral Theater in Bremerton. The ceremony will also be open to the public. Admission will also be sold for a ceremony reception to follow.
