Bremerton police officers forcibly entered a second-floor apartment on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 6, after a man, allegedly using methamphetamine, broke the glass out of a second-floor window and held a baby outside several times. The baby was taken safely into protective custody and the man has been jailed.

David Michael Navarro, 38, a former Puget Sound Naval Shipyard employee and Belfair Elementary School PTA president, was sentenced Sept. 8 in U.S. District Court in Tacoma to 23 years in prison and lifetime of supervised release for four child pornography offenses, announced U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan.

Central Kitsap resident Alana Kemppainen-Cartwright, 23, was killed early in the morning Wednesday, Sept. 10, after being struck by vehicle in the 5500 block of Tracyton Boulevard. A 25-year-old man she was walking with was also hit by the car and was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with critical injuries.

Silverdale’s Bruce Waterbury will turn 55 years old on Sept. 17. His daughter, Kristi Balant, will turn 28 on Sept. 13. But the dad-daughter duo has special plans for a joint celebration on Sunday, Sept. 14. They’re going to swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco.

The Bremerton Figure Skating Club is hosting a free ice skating exhibition Sept. 20 which will feature local figure skaters, including six skaters who will perform their solo ice routines in preparation for the upcoming 2015 Northwest Pacific Regional Figure Skating Championships Wenatchee, October 5-7.

Lindell and I were driving to and from errands, me lost in my thoughts about the day, and Lindell playing with my phone in the backseat. The car streamed music over Bluetooth, but because Lindell had the phone and it was on shuffle, I had no control over which tracks would come on next. The smartphone was shuffling through all 300-something songs in my library, many of them I hadn’t heard in years.

A suspicious package found near Naval Sea Systems Command in downtown Bremerton closed Fourth Street between Park and Warren Avenues Monday morning and brought out a team from the U.S. Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal Detachment. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
