A new event in Kitsap is celebrating the county's growing beer scene. The inaugural week-long, peninsula-wide series of events is called Hopstock, and brewers and bar owners alike are hoping for a healthy turnout.

Thirty local kids, ages 6 to 19, will take the stage at (CSTOCK) in a storybook production of “Cinderella” beginning Friday, June 25. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and at 6 p.m. Sundays through July 11.Director Andrea Gonzales said the much-loved story translates well to the stage, and is one all audiences will enjoy, both those in search of good theater and younger onlookers who will likely be swept away by the fairytale music and costuming.

There are plenty of places and ways to celebrate freedom in Kitsap this weekend, from waterfront concerts to parades to bright bursts that light up the sky.Celebrate the Viking way with Poulsbo, a city that kicks things off a day early, beginning Third of July festivities at noon on Saturday, July 3, at Waterfront Park downtown. Live entertainment will run until about 10 p.m., after which fireworks will go off in sync with tunes from music on KITZ 1400 AM. Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson speaks about the courage of the nation’s founding fathers after the National Anthem at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Navy Band Northwest Passage. Shuttle buses will run between North Kitsap schools on Hostmark Street and downtown to provide more parking. A roundtrip shuttle ticket is $2.

Kitsap customers have fewer options when it comes to movie rentals.
Chamomile, ivy alternatives to traditional lawn | Your own backyard Ivy makes a wonderful dark green ground cover and can be interspersed with plantings of bright coloured flowers. Periwinkle (Vinca minor) is a wonderful ground cover that does well in both shade and sun, though sunny areas will take longer to grow and will never look as lush. All sorts of thyme are wonderful. Woolly thyme (Thymus pseudolanuginosus) makes you want to sit on it and maybe even stroke the silvery green fuzzy foliage. Creeping juniper (juneperus horizontalis) thrives in a sunny dry place and looks like one of its common names, a “Blue Rug.” Ask your local nursery. They usually have a wide variety of ground covers and specific recommendations for your particular needs.
