Five gardens sharing a common locale and focus on water make up this year's Bainbridge In Bloom garden tour.

Located along a tree-lined two-mile loop in the Agate Pass neighborhood, it's designed as a walking tour, though cycling is encouraged, and a shuttle will provide limited service between the gardens both days. Find more info online at www.gardentour.org.

The traditional, Irish old time band featured at last year's Great Peninsula Future Festival, will play on the outdoor patio at Moondogs Saturday night, following the Pacific Northwest Chris Craft Rendezvous' awards banquet.

Jul 10 2009, 11:02 AM As I write, I am sitting at my 10-year-old son’s baseball game feeling surprisingly grateful. Usually Pee Wee sports excite me as much as the proverbial paint-drying show. The only team sport that doesn’t bore me on principle is American football. The fits and spurts of young unskilled players exhaust my limited patience and the spectators’ chatter in the bleachers tries my last nerve. Last year’s soccer season was so bad I was forced to get domestic and learn to knit as a coping device.
