An unknown man attempting to break into a Bremerton man’s house Sunday hit the resident in the head with a gun and fired a shot into the house.

Police responded to the scene in the 1300 block of North Cambrian at about 11 p.m. and found a man with blood on his head. The 48-year-old man said the suspect came to his front door, asked for money and hit him in the head with a gun, according to police reports. Witnesses in the house at the time told officers the suspect struggled with the 48-year-old, trying to push the door open, asking for pills, and threatened to shoot through the door. After he hit the man in the head with his gun, he fired once into the house and left.

The 48-year-old man told police he had used heroin two weeks earlier and had several prescription pills, including oxycodone and methadone. He denied selling any drugs. He had a one-inch cut on the back of his head and refused medical aid.
