Despite denying it earlier this year, Trader Joe’s, the California-based food store chain, is planning a store for Silverdale.

The store’s application with the county Department of Community Development was approved Tuesday, after it was filed with the department Oct. 25.

Known for its Joe’s O’s and bargain deals on giant bottles of olive oil, the store has been approved to renovate 26,388-square-feet of the interior of the shuttered Circuit City at 9991 Mickelberry Road Northwest.

Calls to the store’s Monrovia headquarters were not immediately returned. The application for the tenant improvement on the site, which cost about $10,000, does not indicate when renovations would begin or when doors would open.

The Central Kitsap Reporter contacted the chain in May, attempting to confirm plans for a new Kitsap location.

“At this time Kitsap is not in our two-year plan,” Trader Joe’s spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki said.
