Bremerton police requested extra patrol checks after a woman found her mail scattered on the ground below her mailbox after coming home Christmas Day, suspecting theft of holiday money.

The 31-year-old woman, who lives in the 1900 block of Rainier Avenue, called police at about 8 p.m. Saturday, according to Bremerton police reports. She said a neighbor told her that a young female in a black hooded sweatshirt was walking away from her mailbox area about 30 minutes earlier.

A 38-year-old neighbor across the street told police he reported the same thing happening to his mailbox recently.

Extra patrol checks in the area were requested.
