Hansville tree service worker dies after fall in Bremerton

A Hansville man died from injuries from a fall in Bremerton Wednesday morning while working with a Poulsbo tree service company.
Aaron Bjorn Waag, 28, fell at least 70 feet from a boom crane hook onto a concrete walkway at a property off Rocky Point Road NW, according to a statement from the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office. His fall was reported at 10:30 a.m.
Medics gave Waag emergency first aid and CPR at the scene. He was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton where he was pronounced dead.
The Kitsap County Coroner will perform an autopsy to determine an official cause of death.
The state Department of Labor and Industries is investigating the incident. According to the Sheriff's statement, a preliminary investigation indicates Waag was hoisted into the air by a boom crane to cut branches from several tall fir trees. He was wearing a helmet and a standard climbing harness secured to a hook on the boom. For an undetermined reason, the harness detached from the hook, causing Waag to fall.
Based on initial evidence, Sheriff's deputies believe Waag's death was accidental.
Waag was a member of family-owned Waag Tree Service, based in Poulsbo.
