January 28, 2011 · 5:03 PM
Two 18-year-old men were tracked down by a search dog Jan. 22 in Bremerton after stealing a purse from a man outside Monica’s Social Club.
The 29-year-old victim from Bremerton told police he was leaving the Sixth Street bar, where he retrieved his 22-year-old sister’s purse, when two men asked him for a cigarette, according to Bremerton police reports. After telling them “no,” the men struck him in the head, face and body with their fists and one man strangled him, trying to pull the purse.
When a passing vehicle stopped and its passengers threatened to call the police, the two 18-year-olds grabbed the purse and ran south toward Burwell Street, chased by the 29-year-old. The 29-year-old flagged down a nearby police car.
A canine search tracked the suspects down behind Budget Batteries on Fourth Street. They were taken to the Kitsap County jail for investigation of second-degree robbery. Charges of second-degree theft were forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
