Bremerton's American Legion Post 68's charter suspended by state

The American Legion Department of Washington's executive committee unanimously passed a resolution Wednesday to suspend the charter of Bremerton's American Legion Post 68, requiring the post to cease operations and reorganize.
The vote took place in a special session at the state American Legion's Lacey headquarters following Post 68's bankruptcy announcement last week, signaled by an upside down American Flag and "Broken arrow" message at its Sheridan Road headquarters.
As a result of the charter suspension, a trustee will take possession of all property, records and bank accounts belonging to Post 68 until the state Legion votes to restore the charter, according to a memo from the American Legion Department of Washington. The trustee will also be responsible for conducting new officer elections. A report on Post 68's progress will be due to the state Legion in July.
Post 68 closed its Sheridan Road building March 25 after a series of financial troubles that arose in 2010, including a suspected embezzlement of money. On March 18, the Post lost a legal dispute with the Bremerton School District over the management of the neighboring Legion Field, which the Post maintained since 1966 until the Bremerton School District sued them to vacate.
