Man writes bad checks to Costco
April 28, 2011 · Updated 1:55 PM
A Bremerton man was arrested March 31 for writing seven fraudulent checks to the Silverdale Costco totaling more than $2,200.
The checks, all issued in January, were written from an account that was closed two-and-a-half years ago, according to reports from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
When the 35-year-old man was contacted by deputies at his home in the 1500 block of Cambrian Avenue, he claimed his check book was stolen in a vehicle prowl. However, he never reported the stolen checks to his bank or the police and his Costco card with photo identification was used for each of the Costco purchases. Deputies also found items described in the Costco receipts in the man’s garage.
The man was taken to Kitsap County jail for investigation of unauthorized issuance of bank checks.
