New face in Port of Bremerton race
May 5, 2011 · Updated 1:56 PM
Axel Strakeljahn, 52, of Seabeck, announced last week that he will run for Port of Bremerton commissioner.
Originally from Kent, Strakeljahn has lived in Kitsap County for 30 years and is manager of the Port Orchard Fred Meyer. He holds an associate’s degree in business administration from Highline Community College.
“The port is not different than private business,” Strakeljahn said. “The port needs to take care of the facilities it has today, promote the facilities and build those that can become fiscally improved upon.”
The seat will be left vacant by retiring Bill Mahan after the November election.
