A 27-year-old East Bremerton woman was arrested Monday after attacking a 75-year-old woman with a shovel, apparently randomly, after spreading gasoline in the victim’s yard and threatening to set her on fire.
The suspect, who was lodged in a crisis cell at the Kitsap County jail and refused to speak with detectives, said she had taken meth, according to reports. Kitsap County sheriff’s deputies were called to the 6000 block of Stampede Blvd NE at 3:42 p.m. after passing motorists stopped to separate the women.
The victim told deputies she arrived home to find the suspect had tied her barbecue to her truck, doused it with gasoline and poured a trail of gas to her house. The suspect took the victim’s house keys from her hand and told her to remove her clothes because she was going to set the woman on fire, reports said.
Both women told deputies they did not know each other. The suspect then charged at the woman with a shovel, hitting her in the head. The victim was able to run toward traffic and flag help from passers-by. The suspect was booked in to the jail for investigation of second-degree assault and robbery and first-degree arson.
