Signature gatherers annoy Trader Joe’s shoppers
Customers at the new Trader Joe’s store in Silverdale told store employees and sheriff’s deputies that signature gatherers outside the front door were harassing customers late last month, according to Kitsap County Sheriff’s reports.
In both cases, store managers told deputies they didn’t mind people gathering signatures outside the store, but that one in particular was making customers uncomfortable.
One woman told an employee she didn’t like the attitude of one of the gatherers, a 22-year-old Bremerton man, the report said.
The 50-year-old woman said after refusing to listen to one of the signature gatherers “he yelled at her that she didn’t even know what it was about,” according to the report.
The man was not forced to leave, but agreed not to approach any more customers.
On June 30, deputies were called again after two signature gatherers attempted to register a 46-year-old man to vote and the man was “concerned” by how they were acting.
Deputies contacted the 22-year-old and told him store management wouldn’t prohibit the signature gatherers from contacting customers, but employees were concerned by how aggressive they were acting. No arrests were made.
