Silverdale man makes a run for it after shoplifting
August 26, 2011 · 11:49 AM
A 21-year-old Silverdale man stole merchandise from Sears and was chased by the store’s security employee to various locations until he was caught by sheriff’s deputies at the Silverdale Beach Hotel last Saturday.
The man entered the store and took a “large number” of video games, placing them into a trash bag, and exited the store without paying for any of the items, according to a report.
The employee said he contacted the suspect and asked him to go to the security office. The suspect pushed the employee, dropped the bag and ran away.
The theft was reported at about 7:35 p.m. and the employee updated the dispatcher to his whereabouts as he followed the suspect. He originally gave his location as near Big Five Sporting Goods and then it changed to Safeway, Staples and Old Mill Park.
The deputies saw a man running west from the park toward the hotel and they were able to catch the suspect at the west end of the hotel. The man was arrested and booked into Kitsap County Jail for fourth-degree assault and third-degree theft. The total value of the recovered items was about $589.
