United Way of Kitsap County today presented a check for $15,000 to the Kitsap County Food Bank Coalition in effort to help with holiday food baskets at local food banks.

“Our Kitsap County food banks continue to see more people than ever before and United Way wanted to help make their burden less by helping them provide holiday meals,” said David Foote, Executive Director of United Way of Kitsap County.  “I talked with several food bank managers this past week and everyone was concerned about having enough funds to provide a decent holiday meal for those needing help.” Foote said.

“We are so very thankful to United Way for this wonderful gift and we are so grateful for this help.” said Jennifer Hardison, President of the Food Bank Coalition.

While the grant is helpful and will go a long way to help provide holiday meals throughout Kitsap County, more assistance is needed at the eight food banks throughout Kitsap County. each one can use donations of food or cash to help feed the increased numbers of families seeking food help.

If you would like to make a contribution directly, contact United Way at (360) 377-8505 for information on the food bank closest to you or dial 211 Peninsula’s 211 Information and Referral network.
