Holiday schedule for county garbage

December 19, 2011 · 9:08 PM

Don't expect to be woken on Christmas morning by the shrill drone of large hydraulics crushing your Christmas Eve garbage into landfill blocks at the end of your driveway.

Waste Management will not work on Christmas day, Dec. 25 or New Year's Day, Jan. 1.

If there are toxins to be disposed of after a long holiday party, or general home maintenance projects, drop them off on the eve of Christmas Eve or you will have to wait past the New Year. The Kitsap County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility will be closed from 3 p.m. Dec. 24 through Jan. 5 for holidays and to perform heavy maintenance.

The recycling and garbage facility in Silverdale will also be closed Christmas day and New Year's Day.

In addition, all facilities will close at 2 p.m. Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 with the exception for the facility at Bainbridge Island which will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. those days.

The Olympic View Transfer Station will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and will close at 3 p.m. Dec. 24 and 4 p.m. Dec. 31.
