Navy invites public to discuss proposed construction

The Navy will host a public meeting tonight form 6 to 8 p.m. at the Central Kitsap High School cafeteria to discuss the construction of a new system at Naval Base Kitsap Bangor.
The proposed construction would consist of an Electromagnetic Measurement Ranging system in Hood Canal near the north end of Bangor. The Navy will discuss its draft Environmental Assessment of the proposed action a Wednesday's meeting before releasing a final version of the assessment.
"This Environmental Assessment evaluates potential environmental effects of constructing 18 and operating an electromagnetic measurement ranging system in Hood Canal north of 19 Naval Base Kitsap Bangor," the report states.
The system's components would include a 400 x 10 foot sensor array, 15 x 15 foot off-shore platform and an 8,118 foot cable connecting the system to the shore.
