City earns Governor’s ‘Smart’ award

Gov. Christine Gregoire announced Bremerton a winner of the 2008 Governor’s Smart Communities award for creating a livable community. Everett, Newcastle, Kirkland, Sumner and Adam’s County also made this year’s winning list.

Bremerton landed the Smart Vision award in comprehensive planning for its Downtown Regional Center sub-area plan.

“This is an impressive body of work by many communities,” said Leonard Bauer, managing director of Growth Management Services for CTED. “The plans and projects include some of the best recent examples of creativity and innovation in developing livable communities.”
