It was indeed the "party of the century." The city of Bremerton celebrated its 100th birthday on Saturday, Oct. 13 when more than 4,000 people attended a daylong celebration in the downtown area.

Those that attended were treated to food, games, dancing, entertainment and a concluding $10,000 fireworks display.

According to centennial organizer Charleen Burnette, the fireworks display may have been a little too successful. So high and wide and loud were the fireworks, that law enforcement officials reported receiving scores of calls from citizens concerned that untoward events were happening at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
