This year’s Safe Trick or Treat Halloween event, held in downtown Bremerton, was the most successful ever, said organizers.

The event, held Oct. 31, 4 to 9 p.m. drew between 1,000 and 1,500 children. Last year’s event drew 1,000 kids, said Pat Wright of Just Your Cup o’ Tea, who helped organize the event with his wife Susan. About 45 businesses participated.

There were window displays, a costume contest and story telling. Some 200 children participated in the “Tunnel of Mystery” at the Fraternal Order of Eagles. A “Scare Trek” haunted space ship at Metropolis The Gallery was just as popular. Hundreds of children enjoyed free kiddy train rides and both children and adults went on “moonlight” hay rides — in fact, under a full moon.

The results of a contest to see which child had visited the most businesses was still being tabulated at press time.

There were eight prizes given out in a costume contest at Metropolis. Most of the winners were under age 6, said Tony White, gallery manager.
