NASCAR facility on track for Kitsap
July 4, 2008 · Updated 11:47 AM
The International Speedway Corp. has selected a 950-acre site near the Bremerton Airport for construction of a new raceway.
ISC officials want the project to be a public/private partnership and estimate the cost at $250 million. There is no estimate of the public/private breakdown.
According to ISC Vice President Grant Lynch, Kitsap was selected after scouting 40 other locations. If approved, it would be the only NASCAR site in the Pacific Northwest. The nearest track is in northern California.
NASCARs announced its interest in the Pacific Northwest in October 2003 when it selected a track site in Marysville. The deal fell apart because a public/private partnership could not be built.
That, according to State Sen. Tim Sheldon (D-Potlatch), wont happen here.
