Developer purchases Eastpark

A 400-unit housing development is coming to the Bremerton’s Eastpark.

Bellevue-based Lyle Homes has purchased the area between Kitsap Family YMCA and Harrison Hospital, long planned for a large-scale development.

Richard Bruskrud, senior associate for Mithun, the Seattle-based architects who will design the new community, said the development will include 100 apartment units while the rest will be “various style residences.”

The developers and the city presented two potential layouts to community members Tuesday night. Neighbors and potential future residents of Eastpark were encouraged to place post-it notes with their comments on the layouts and potential designs.

Concerns about increased traffic were addressed in one scheme. It calls for townhouses lining Schley Boulevard “making it a very urban-like street which will bring speed down by creating congestion,” Bruskrud said. Bruskrud said such a street lined with houses and on-street parking tends to cause motorists to travel slower through the area. Nevertheless, one post-it expressed concern that traffic could back up to Old Wheaton Way, interfering with ambulance passage to the hospital.
