Bremerton schools have new finance director

Former finance director Walt Draper has come out of retirement as an interim replacement for Kevin Ferguson, who resigned last week.

Draper was a “longtime finance director” for the district, serving from 1989-2002 and was Ferguson’s immediate predecessor, according to district community services coordinator Krista Carlson.

Draper saw the district through several major projects including the building of Mountain view Middle and Kitsap Lake and Crownhill elementary schools. A former elementary school was remodeled into the current administration building along with remodeling or additions at Armin Jahr, View Ridge and Naval Avenue elementaries.

Carlson said Ferguson’s letter of resignation was approved by the school board at their Aug. 4 meeting. He cited personal reasons for his departure.
