BHA changing itsdirection in leadership

As the Bremerton Housing Authority steps into the future, executive director Merrill Wallace’s tenure has become a part of the organization’s past.

After 23 years as executive director of the organization, Wallace leaves for the interim director position at Northeast Washington Housing Solutions in Spokane. His departure was announced by the BHA Board of Commissioners Monday, with Friday, Dec. 9 scheduled to be his last day in the office.

“I think it’s right down my alley,” Wallace said of the new job. “I look forward to that role. There are a number of housing authorities nationwide between directors,” a role Wallace may fill elsewhere after Spokane.

BHA now fits that description as well and David Gitch takes over as its acting executive director. Gitch served 13 years as the President and CEO of Harrison Hospital prior to his retirement in December 2004. A Poulsbo resident, Gitch served on the boards of directors of the Bremerton Symphony Endowment Board and the Bremerton Rotary Foundation. He also chaired the Blue Ribbon Committee commissioned by the city to evaluate the possible consolidation of BHA with Kitsap Consolidated Housing Authority earlier
