Tuesday is Election Day
Voters may drop off their ballots from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sylvan Way branch of the Kitsap Regional Library in Bremerton. The library meeting room will have elections staff and volunteers to accept mail-in ballots. The public may not drop off ballots prior to Feb. 7. People may drop off ballots at the Kitsap County Courthouse, 614 Division St. in Port Orchard or at the Kitsap County Auditors office, 1026 Sidney Ave. Ste. 175, prior to Tuesday.
The Sylvan Way Library is located at 1301 Sylvan Way, next to the post office, one block east of Wheaton Way.
Voters are deciding the fate of the Bremerton School Districts four-year levy that would collect at most $39.3 million. The renewal levy rate is estimated at $2.75 per $1,000 assessed property value compared to $3.10 for the current four-year levy that expires next year.
The levy money makes up 16 percent of the districts budget and accounts for another eight percent when levy matching funds from the state are taken into consideration.
About half of levy funding goes to classroom needs like additional teachers who help keep class sizes smaller, expanded summer school activities, updated instructional materials and supplies for teachers. The rest of the money is divided among school support, building maintenance, transportation, technology, student activities, athletics and equipment replacement.
