Bremerton athletic director to resign
July 4, 2008 · Updated 12:01 PM
Larry Gallagher is resigning after eight years as athletic director for Bremerton High School. He has worked at BHS since it first opened its doors in 1988 and is a former coach of the Knights' basketball team. His resignation is effective at the end of the school year.
Gallagher had considered leaving earlier.
"The time was a couple of years ago," he said. When asked how long he had been at BHS in total, he said "probably too long in some people's eyes. But I felt there were some things I wanted to finish here."
The athletic department has seen a half-dozen coaching changes in the past year and Gallagher felt comfortable with the group that is in place now that the dust has settled.
"We have excellent coaches with good goals in mind," he said. "We're looking at having continued consistency in our programs. Our out-of-season conditioning is improving and it has been a very good year for academics and eligibility. Those are two very important areas in an athletic program."
