Who will be Miss Kitsap 2006?

One of eight lucky contestants on tonight is going to take home the crown of Miss Kitsap and thousands of dollars in scholarships and cash prizes.

The event, now in its 27th iteration, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Bremerton High School’s auditorium. Last year’s winner was Diosa Werner of Olalla. 2005’s runner-up, Sheila Spiker of Port Orchard, is back this year, stating in her application that she’s, “dedicated, determined and ready to make a difference as Miss Kitsap.”

Whoever of the eight wins the crown advances to compete in the Miss Washington pageant in early July.

Each contestant is judged on her poise and appearance and has to demonstrate a talent and discuss a chosen platform which ranges from self-esteem and suicide prevention to international education.

Competing alongside the pageant contestants are their “Little Sisters” who have been cheering them on through the lengthy process.

Little Sisters serve as traveling companions for the year and during the Miss Washington
