CKF&R board to discuss Tracyton Station closure
The Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. Monday in the administrative building at 5300 Newberry Hill Road, in Silverdale.
On the agenda for the meeting is a study session that includes discussion about Tracyton Station 44, which is under consideration for closure. The station is now manned by volunteers and there was a public open house last month and a formal meeting where the board heard from residents of the area and other concerns citizens.
Commissioners are considering closing the station due to tight finances in the district and the fact that the building is in need of upgrades that could cost up to $500,000, according to a district engineering study.
While the meeting is not an action item meeting, board members are expected to give their views about the future of the station. Also on the agenda is a report for Fire Chief Scott Weninger who will tell commissioners what results have come from an "economic summit" the district has sponsored the past several months.
The summit has included a group of internal stakeholders who have been discussing what financial steps the district needs to take to be more economically sound.
Those suggestions will also be discussed by a citizens committee, a group of external (non-employee) residents and business owners in the district, who will then give their suggestions to the board.
Commissioners are expected to use the information to determine future needs for tax levies, and/ or reductions in the district's budget.
