Utah man ID'd from Monday's car crash
A 45-year-old man from Utah died in a crash near the edge of Illahee State Park after the car he was traveling crashed down an embankment Monday morning.
Kitsap County Sheriff's Office identified the man who died in Monday's crash as David J. Ellenger of Utah.
Around 3:06 a.m., Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a single motor vehicle crash in the area of Bahia Vista Drive and Sylvan Way. The vehicle left the roadway and went down two embankments about 200 feet down from the road.
Ellenger was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Neither he or the driver were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Deputies are investigating if alcohol was a factor in the accident. The driver showed impairment signs from ingestion of alcohol. A search warrant allowed investigators to obtain a blood sample, which is now pending results at the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab.
The car, a 2007 Mazda Miata convertible, was traveling eastbound on NE Sylvan Way in East Bremerton when the female driver, 27, "failed to negotiate a sharp corner," according to a Kitsap County Sheriff's Office release.
The female was extricated by CKF&R and treated at Harrison Medical Center for serious injuries. The driver also recently arrived from Utah as well.
Those with information about the crash are asked to contact Deputy Mike Shannon at 360-337-4634.
