Two in custody after leading troopers on vehicle pursuit through Kitsap
A 28-year-old Poulsbo woman and a 23-year-old Port Orchard man were arrested early Tuesday morning after leading Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers on a chase through Kitsap County.
The incident began at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on State Route 3 near State Route 303 when a Kitsap County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a white 2002 Toyota Echo for driving recklessly, according to WSP. The driver failed to pull over and a trooper in the area located the vehicle and took over the pursuit.
The vehicle continued toward Chico Way where it exited and drove onto several side streets. Troopers laid out spike strips on Austin Drive near State Route 3 in Bremerton, which punctured the vehicle's tires, according to WSP. The vehicle continued across Kitsap Way and on secondary roads before heading back to Kitsap Way where a trooper executed a PIT maneuver as the vehicle attempted to turn back onto SR 3. The PIT maneuver stopped the vehicle and brought the 11-minute pursuit to an end, according to WSP.
The female driver, Shaneeka Opulencia, and the male passenger, Donald L. Rogers, were taken into custody without incident.
Opulencia was booked into the Kitsap County Jail for felony eluding and an outstanding warrant. Her bail is set at $15,000.
Rogers was booked for possession of burglary tools. He is currently serving a sentence for third-degree driving with a suspended license.
