A 3-year-old boy died Sunday afternoon when he fell off the back of a moving pickup truck in Bremerton.

Kitsap County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Wilson said the boy and his mother attended a gathering at a home in the 4000 block of NW Erlands Point Road in Bremerton Sunday. The woman left the get-together around 5:45 p.m. and the boy apparently ran out of the house and jumped on the pickup truck's bumper.

Wilson said the woman did not know the boy was on the bumper and began to drive away.

The boy's father eventually saw what was happening and ran down the road to stop the woman driving the truck, but the boy fell off the bumper before he reached him, Wilson said.

The man performed CPR on the boy until paramedics arrived, but the boy died at the scene, Wilson said.

KCSO isn't sure if the boy died as a result of falling from the moving pickup truck or if he was struck by the vehicle, according to Wilson.

He said the incident appears accidental and the investigation continues.
