State patrol arrests 125 for DUI Super Bowl Sunday

Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers arrested 125 drivers for DUI between midnight Sunday, Feb. 1 through 3 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2 statewide.
Troopers assigned to District 8 in Bremerton made 15 DUI arrests. Troopers worked special emphasis patrols Super Bowl Sunday. There was only one traffic fatality that evening, which was reported in the Spokane area, according to WSP.
On Jan. 25, the Sunday before the Super Bowl, state patrol only made 75 DUI arrests during the same timeframe. This is a 60 percent increase in DUI arrests on Super Bowl Sunday, according to WSP.
“We see a lot of advertising that links Super Bowl Sunday with alcohol,” WSP Chief John Batiste stated in a news release. “The responsibility is still on the individual not to drink and drive.”
