Kiwanis Park will undergo a nearly $1 million facelift starting next year, after the Bremerton City Council approved a grant agreement at Wednesday’s meeting.

The grants paying for the update include a $400,000 grant from the state Recreation and Conservation Funding Board and a $500,000 low-impact development grant, among others.

The scheduled improvements include a new picnic area, new restrooms, streetside trees and landscaping and new fencing. The slope between the upper and lower sections of the park will also be evened out.

Construction is slated to begin late summer or early fall 2011.
