A Bremerton man was struck by a wooden stick in downtown Bremerton July 22 after insulting another man’s mother.

Police responded to a report of two men fighting in front of the Washington Avenue and Second Street Kitsap Credit Union at 2:36 p.m. and found a 55-year-old male with a cut on his forehead, according to Bremerton police reports.

The victim told police he said something about the mother of a driver of a passing pickup truck. The two “exchanged words” until the driver, a 58-year-old Bremerton man, stopped his truck, walked to the back of the vehicle and pulled out a stick. The 58-year-old struck the the 55-year-old on the head and the victim grabbed the stick before the next blow. The victim pushed the suspect to the ground and yelled for people to call 911.

Police booked the 58-year-old man into Kitsap County jail for investigation of second-degree assault.
