Powers surges ahead, now leads by 16 votes

The Port Orchard City Council race between incumbent Carolyn Powers and challenger Cindy Lucarelli ended the week too close to call, with Powers leading by just 16 votes.

In the results posted Friday afternoon Powers had 1,191 votes (49.96 percent) to 1,175 (49.29 for Lucarelli. About 900 votes are left to be counted.

Horton leads pack of Port candidates

Preliminary results from the Kitsap County Auditor’s office Tuesday night had former Bremerton Mayor Lynn Horton handily leading the trio of candidates vying for Cheryl Kincer’s commissioner seat.

As of 8:15 p.m, Horton led each of her opponents by at least 10 points with 49.6 percent to Roger Zabinski’s 28.4 percent and Gene Hart’s 20.3 percent.
