Letters to the Editor

Government takeover is obvious

Give me a break! If Douglas Terry is an independent then I’m a liberal. The entire tenor of his letter is from the liberal talking points of blame Bush. Also my thoughts and opinions are formulated from the information I gather from a variety of news media sources. There is one thing which Mr. Terry did not address and that was the main focus of my letter which was the total takeover process of health care and the absolute intimidation lies, closed door special deals and bribery used by this administration.

What happened to the numerous promises by candidate Obama of all the legislative processes to be on CSPAN? TARP funding in the amount of $700 billion was issued by President Bush with the support of the Congress and voted for by Sen. Obama. These funds were to stop the immediate projected failure of the U.S. financial system.

Through backroom deals and a sign off by bankruptcy courts the federal government took over ownership of 60 percent of GM, Canada got 12.5 percent, and the United Autoworkers got 17.5 percent. The bondholders got a lousy 10 percent. Then President Obama, through intimidation, fires the CEO of GM, a private company. Now if that is not government takeover what is?

In addition, the government threatened banks and states that did not want funds to take them or else. The so-called accolades of the banks paying TARP back are a joke. Those dollars have not been returned to pay back the TARP fund or reduce the national debt.

Then President Obama authorized a larger stimulus package of $787 billion additional dollars which was to keep and generate jobs and ensure unemployment would not exceed 8 percent. It is now averaged at 9.7, with Michigan 14.1, Nevada 13.2.

Hey Doug, do yourself a favor: before you attempt to disparage a letter writer, focus on the content of the letter.
