Kingston tennis beats Bremerton

The Kingston High School girls tennis team defeated Bremerton High School 5-2 April 18.

Kingston won four doubles matches, while the Knights won two of three singles matches.

Breanna Casias (pictured left) and Megan Arriolla led the Knights in their singles victories against Austen Turner and Anna Rushmer, respectively. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers earned victories by pairs Olivia Guerara-Stephanie Fyfe, Andrea Fladgaid-Maddi Miller, Lindsey Wicklein-Erika Daniels and Charlotte Kilborn-Marilyn Fick.

 

ISPN to air Rangers game

Kevin Mac will broadcast live coverage of the ISPN Sports Show from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday with highlights and interviews from the past week of high school sports on www.ispnsports.com. Mac will also feature Olympic College athletics.

The show will include highlights and interviews from Rangers players and coaches.

The network is scheduled to broadcast Olympic College’s baseball game against Bellevue College at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

Bastien leads Klahowya boys lacrosse

Kevin Bastien led the Klahowya Secondary School boys lacrosse team to a 14-5 win against Liberty High School (Renton) at Central Kitsap Junior High School April 16.

Bastien scored a hat trick with the game’s first three goals en route to the Eagles’ fifth win of the season.

Klahowya entered halftime with an 8-2 lead and didn’t look back. After scoring two goals in the third quarter and four in the fourth, the Eagles topped Liberty.

Nick Johanson and Jeff Haga scored two goals apiece, while Nehemiah Salo tallied 11 saves for Klahowya. The Eagles improved to 5-2 this season under coach Rob Hawley (pictured above).

Klahowya girls lacrosse wins

The Klahowya Secondary School girls lacrosse team defeated Curtis High School (Tacoma) 18-5 at Central Kitsap Junior High School April 15. The Eagles improved to 7-0 with the win under head coach Laurie Usher (pictured right), staying at second place in the Southwest Division standings.

Jacky Hennegan led the Eagles with five goals, while Sammy Borson, Jordan Dixon, Hannah Erickson and Rocki Winkler totaled two goals each. Hennegan also finished with a team-high two assists.

WIAA votes down lacrosse

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, the state’s governing body for high school athletics, voted against sanctioning the sport of lacrosse Monday.

The Representative Assembly voted 35-0 and 33-2 against sanctioning boys and girls lacrosse, respectively.

Mike Colbrese, an executive director with the association, said earlier this month that field availability and a lack of coaches and officials were concerns for sanctioning the sport.
