BHS star to run track at Washington State.
Come this fall, shell be loose on the Palouse, sporting the crimson and gray.
Jacki Hill, Bremertons three-sport speedster, is heading to Washington State University on a track and field and academic scholarship.
Earning all-league honors in basketball and soccer while also medaling at three straight state track and field championships, Hill has kept busy as a Knight, maintaining a nearly perfect 3.95 GPA.
Now shell take her show to Pullman.
They called wanting to know my times, stats and records, Hill said of the track and field recruiting process, dating back to last fall.
And while ambitions of competing in basketball and soccer at the collegiate level remain high, Hill said a visit to Pullman sold her on track.
They flew me out there and it was really fun, she said. I got to know the team (and) they were all really nice.
Hill runs the 100-, 200- and 400-meter races for the Knights, specializing in the sprints, but also will join the WSU 1,600 relay team.
Competing in the Pac-10 Conference against top-notch competition, Hill will apply what she has learned from her coaches in high school to her soon-to-be collegiate career.
Glen (Godfrey) used to always have motivational sayings, Hill said, referring to her former soccer coach. The game lasts an hour, but your character lasts a lifetime.
And Hills character, especially in the classroom, figures to translate into a successful college career on the track and with the books.
I think I want to be a teacher, she said. Im also considering chemistry.
The middle child in a family of five, receiving college attention has made for an exciting ride in the Hill household.
The phone calls started coming in and that was fun, father Blake Hill said. Were grateful that she has the opportunity to compete at the next level.
With plenty of business to attend to between now and next fall, Hill will direct her attention to finishing the academic year and track season on a high note.
She was in action yesterday at the 3A subdistricts meet, competing for a spot in the state championships, scheduled for May 23-24.
Id like to win, she said of the upcoming meets.
