Sports notices Hoop Shoot Contest

The finalists in the Bremerton Elks 38th Annual Hoop Shoot Contest, which was at Ridgetop Junior High School Jan. 10, were recently announced.

Ages 8-9

Boys: David Mansfield, Hidden Creek Elementary, 17/25

Girls: Melina Polzin, Cottonwood Elementary, 8/25

Ages 10-11

Boys: Micah Swanberg, Silver Ridge Elementary, 17/25

Girls: Kaylee Yergeau, Mullenix Ridge Elementary, 20/25

Ages 12-13

Boys: Beau Miller, Mullenix Ridge Elementary, 16/25

Finalists will represent their individual schools as well as the county at the district shoot-off Jan. 24 at Hoquiam High School. Finalists from that event advance to the state shoot-off Feb. 14 at Highland Middle School in Bellevue.

Regionals are at Concordia University in Portland, Ore., March 7.

Girls basketball clinic

Total Package Basketball is hosting a preseason junior high girls basketball clinic for players in grades five through nine. The two-session clinic is 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday. Both sessions are at King’s West School. Cost is $65.

The sessions will take players through shooting and ball handling drills to improve their skills. Offensive moves also will be taught along with defensive strategies.

Bangor Navy Baseball Club

Did you play varsity, college, or Minor League Baseball? Tired of softball? Want to play baseball again? Bangor Navy Baseball Club is looking for players. Must be in the military, stationed in either Bremerton or Bangor and not deployed from May to October. There will be a practice/tryout this Monday at the Zone Sportsplex in Poulsbo.
