SPANAWAY — So far, so good.
Bremerton's Courtney Wasserburger and Breanna Casias won their first-round match at the Class 3A West Central District III girls tennis tournament at Sprinker Recreation Center on Tuesday to stay on track for a berth to the state tournament.
The Lady Knight duo beat Madison Holdass and Alex Quackenbush of Kennedy 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in their first and only match of the day, despite playing what coach Casey Lindberg called "not their best match of the season."
Wasserburger and Casias would have faced Capital's Natalie Nicholson and Stephanie Hughes in Tuesday's quarterfinals, but rainy conditions forced the action inside, where only four courts were available.
As a result, action will resume at 8:30 a.m. Thursday when conditions are expected to improve, making Sprinker's six outdoor courts available for play.
With one more victory, Wasserburger and Casias would advance to state. They'll get two tries at it thanks to the tournament's double-elimination format.
The championship round is Saturday.
