Fourth annual Race for Literacy

The race is at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 at View Ridge Elementary, 3250 Spruce Rd. behind the Sylvan Way Library and post office.

There are three races — a five-kilometer, one-mile and kids dash — and medallions, certificates and ribbons will be presented to participants.

Special events include book signings by authors Gregg Olsen, Elinor DeWire and Jenny Shortridge.

The Literacy Council aims to help those 16 years and older build skills as they enter the work force. Programs include individualized GED preparation, job-specific literacy tutoring, ESL tutoring, citizenship preparation, family literacy tutoring for parents and work in reading and other basic skills.

Additional information and registration forms for the race are available at the Literacy Council Web site, or by calling Kaye, (360) 373-1539. Contact Lorene Leider, (360) 373-1539 with questions.
