Youth baseball tryouts

The Stingers Baseball Club is hosting tryouts for the 2010 season today and Monday, Aug. 10 for 11U, 12U, 14U and 16U levels. Tryouts are at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds from 6 to 8:30 pm. The search is on for all position players for the upcoming season. Players must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during tryouts. Please bring a copy of player’s certified birth certificate. For additional information, call (360) 871-0734.

Race for Literacy

The Race for Literacy is at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 at View Ridge Elementary School, 3250 Spruce Rd. behind the Sylvan Way Library and post office Additional information and registration forms for the race are available at the Literacy Council Web site, www.kitsapliteracy.org or by calling Kaye at (360) 373-1539. Semancik golf

The seventh annual Semancik Memorial/Bremerton Alumni golf tournament is Sept. 12 at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Bremerton. Action begins at 8 a.m.

Limited to 36 foursomes, the tournament costs $60 per individual or $240 per foursome. It has filled each of the past six years.

The entry fee includes tee prizes, entry to the 5th Quarter Awards luncheon with a special speaker and the opportunity to be part of one of the biggest raffles and silent auctions in the area.
